The Lanterns

The Lanterns is a family-owned business, with Bob and Sally at the helm. Bob first fell in love with South Devon when he was at University in Plymouth during the 1990’s. Bob, Sally, their children John and Poppy and their extended families have been visiting Hope Cove and the South Hams for over twenty years.

In 2017 Bob purchased Lantern Lodge Hotel, a traditional 18 room hotel that was suffering from a lack on investment and declining bookings. The hotel continued to trade for two years, however, it was very apparent the shift in market trends towards self-catering holidays was making the hotel unviable.

A planning application was made to demolish the existing antiquated hotel and replace with a selection high quality holiday apartments.

Works began in late 2020, with a local contractor, and were completed at the start of 2023. The completed scheme is a benchmark for design and construction in South Hams, and will be submitted for National Design Awards later this year.

During the many happy holidays spent in Hope Cove, Bob, Sally, their friends and families have stayed in huge selection of the available holiday accommodation available locally. This gives them a unique insight into what makes great holiday accommodation! They have been visitors as a couple, with friends, young children, older children, grandparents, and of course Billy the family dog!

They have thought of everything to make your stay as easy and relaxing as possible, and included little touches that will make you smile, and eager to return again and again!
